What is the 267781 rocker cover gasket for?
The 267781 gasket seals the inlet rocker cover to the cylinder head on the 2.0 litre petrol IOE engine. It keeps oil in around the inlet valve gear, sitting between the upper rocker cover and the head. It's supplied as a single gasket.
Which engine and model does this gasket fit?
This gasket fits the 2.0 litre petrol IOE (Inlet Over Exhaust) engine used in the Land Rover Series I (1948-1958). It's the inlet-side rocker cover gasket specifically, so check you need the inlet rather than the exhaust cover seal.
Why does the rocker cover gasket need replacing?
Over time the gasket hardens and shrinks, letting oil seep from the rocker cover down the side of the engine. It's good practice to fit a fresh gasket whenever the rocker cover is removed, as a reused gasket rarely reseals cleanly.
