What does the DA4744 high-output heater matrix do?
The DA4744 is the heat-exchanger core inside the Defender heater box that transfers heat from engine coolant to the cabin airflow. Hot coolant flows through the matrix while the blower draws air across its fins. The high-output core gives more heat than the standard matrix, with straight horizontal pipe connections.
Which Defenders does the DA4744 heater matrix fit?
The DA4744 fits the Land Rover Defender from 1990 to 2006 and is for right-hand-drive vehicles, RHD only from 1998. It doesn't fit the later Puma 2.2 and 2.4 TDCi models. It's a straight-pipe pattern, so check your existing matrix pipe orientation before ordering.
Does fitting the DA4744 need any modification?
Fitting the DA4744 typically requires minor modification to the Defender heater box, because the high-output core is larger than the standard matrix. Plan for some trimming during installation, and make sure the straight horizontal pipe outlets match your heater plumbing routing.
