OEM Part
OEM: Made by an Original Equipment Manufacturer. This part is made by an original equipment manufacturer or under their license, ensuring compatibility and quality.

Fitment Notes DEFENDER 1983-2006 — 90, achterste aandrijfas, 3.5L V8 benzine, t/m VIN CA254406

Frequently asked questions

What is the FRC8385 propshaft and what does it do?
The FRC8385 is the rear propshaft for the V8 Land Rover Defender 90. It transmits drive from the transfer box rear output flange to the rear axle differential input flange, using a universal joint at each end and a sliding splined section to cope with axle movement.
Where does the FRC8385 rear propshaft sit?
The FRC8385 rear propshaft runs under the Defender 90 between the transfer box and the rear axle. A universal joint at each end handles the changing angle as the axle moves on its suspension, and the sliding splined section lets the shaft lengthen and shorten under articulation.
How do I confirm the FRC8385 fits my Defender?
The FRC8385 fits the Land Rover Defender 90 with the 3.5L V8 petrol engine from 1983 to 2006, up to VIN CA254406. Later chassis after that VIN break used a different rear propshaft, so check your VIN before ordering.
Why does a rear propshaft fail on the Defender?
Rear propshafts usually fail through worn universal joints or a dry, notchy sliding spline, giving a vibration or clunk from under the Defender on drive take-up. Worn UJs can seize, so a shaft with play or roughness at the joints typically needs replacing.
Is the FRC8385 hard to fit?
Fitting the FRC8385 is a bolt-on job at each flange, typically with several nuts and bolts per end. The flanges must be aligned and the fasteners torqued to the workshop manual specification, since a loose propshaft flange is a safety risk on the Defender.
