What does the GA1195 alternator upgrade kit do?
GA1195 replaces the standard alternator on the 200Tdi 2.5L four-cylinder turbo diesel with a higher-output unit, for the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic. It includes an uprated main output cable sized for the extra current.
Why upgrade the alternator on a 200Tdi Defender or Discovery 1?
The standard 200Tdi alternator can't sustain extra loads like auxiliary lighting, a winch, an air compressor or a second-battery system. GA1195's higher-output unit is built to support these additions without overloading the charging circuit.
Does the GA1195 kit fit engines other than the 200Tdi?
No, GA1195 is specified for the 200Tdi 2.5L engine only, as fitted to the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic. Confirm your engine code before ordering, since other Land Rover diesel engines use a different alternator mounting.
