Frequently asked questions

What is the GA5121 main bearing set for?
GA5121 is a crankshaft main bearing set for the 2.4L TDCi Puma engine, sitting between the crankshaft journals and the cylinder block and caps to locate the crank and carry the pressure-fed oil film.
Will this bearing set fit any Defender diesel?
No. GA5121 is for the 2.4L TDCi Puma engine only, built 2007 to 2011. It does not fit the later 2.2 TDCi Defender (2012-2016) or the earlier Td5 and 300Tdi engines, since bearing dimensions differ between these engines.
When do main bearings need replacing?
Main bearings are renewed as a set during a bottom-end overhaul, typically when oil pressure drops, a knocking noise develops from the bottom of the engine, or the crankshaft is being reground.
What if my crankshaft has been reground?
A reground crankshaft needs the corresponding undersize bearing set instead of this standard-size kit. Check your crank's regrind spec before ordering to get the correct bearing clearance.
