What's included in the GA5550 Td5 clutch kit?
GA5550 includes the clutch cover, driven plate and release bearing for the Td5 2.5L 5-cylinder diesel, covering the full clutch assembly between the engine and the manual gearbox.
Why are all three components replaced together?
The driven plate, cover and release bearing wear together, and reaching any of them means pulling the gearbox out. Since that's the labour-intensive part of the job, it makes sense to renew all three at once rather than risk doing the job twice.
What are the signs the clutch needs replacing?
Watch for slipping under load, a spongy or high biting point, or a noisy release bearing when the pedal is pressed. Any of these point to the driven plate, cover or bearing wearing out.
Which vehicles use the Td5 clutch kit?
GA5550 fits the Defender 1986 to 2006 and Discovery 2 1998 to 2004, both with the Td5 engine. Check your engine code, since other engines in the same model years use a different clutch kit.
