The drive belt pulley is an idler pulley in the accessory belt circuit, running on a sealed ball bearing. It guides the accessory belt around its routing and maintains the belt wrap across the driven ancillaries. Fitted to the Discovery 3 and Discovery 4 with the Cologne V6 4.0 EFI petrol engine.
What are the signs of a failing drive belt pulley?
A failing drive belt pulley typically shows as a rumble or squeal from the front of the engine that rises and falls with engine speed, caused by a worn bearing. If it seizes it can shred or throw the accessory belt. On the 4.0 V6 it's worth replacing alongside the belt.
