LR013841 is the air conditioning compressor for the 2.7 V6 Lion diesel. It's belt driven from the engine accessory drive, drawing low pressure refrigerant vapour from the evaporator side and delivering it at high pressure to the condenser, which is what lets the system reject heat and cool the cabin.

Does this compressor fit the 3.0 V6 diesel as well?

No. This compressor is specific to the 2.7 V6 Lion diesel in the Discovery 4 2010-2016 from VIN AA000001, and it doesn't interchange with the 3.0 V6 unit. Check your engine code before ordering, since the Discovery 4 was sold with both diesel V6 engines.

What has to be done to the air conditioning system when this compressor is fitted?

The refrigerant circuit has to be evacuated and recharged when the compressor is replaced, and the system oil charge set to specification. That needs air conditioning service equipment, so this isn't a part that can simply be bolted on and driven.
