Frequently asked questions

What does the bonnet gas strut do?
The bonnet gas strut supports the bonnet in the raised position and dampens its opening and closing. It's a gas-pressurised lift strut mounted between the bonnet and body of the Range Rover Evoque L538, holding the bonnet open and controlling its movement through the operating range.
How many bonnet gas struts are needed?
Bonnet gas struts are typically fitted in pairs, one each side, on the Range Rover Evoque L538. If one has weakened the other is usually close behind, so replacing both together keeps the bonnet lifting evenly. This is supplied as a single strut.
What are the signs a bonnet gas strut is worn?
A worn bonnet gas strut typically won't hold the bonnet up, drifts down slowly, or feels weak when lifting. On the Range Rover Evoque L538, a failed strut lets the bonnet drop, which is why they're usually replaced in pairs once one loses gas pressure.
