The mass air flow (MAF) sensor measures the mass of air entering the engine and reports it to the engine control module. The ECM uses that signal to meter fuel and hold the correct air/fuel ratio. It's mounted in the intake ducting downstream of the air filter.
What are the symptoms of a failing mass air flow sensor?
A failing mass air flow sensor typically causes rough running, hesitation, poor fuel economy, reduced power or a check engine light with air flow fault codes. Contamination of the sensing element is a common cause on these engines. Replacement usually restores correct fuelling.
Where is the mass air flow sensor located?
The mass air flow sensor sits in the air intake ducting between the air filter box and the engine. It's fitted to the Discovery 4 and 5, Range Rover L405, Range Rover Sport L494 and Velar. This is a Bosch OEM sensor.
