Frequently asked questions

What does the electric parking brake actuator do?
The electric parking brake actuator is the motor-gear unit mounted on a rear brake caliper that applies and releases the parking brake electrically. On command from the parking brake module it drives the caliper piston to clamp the pads against the disc.
How many parking brake actuators does the vehicle need?
One electric parking brake actuator is fitted per rear caliper, so two per vehicle, and this listing is for a single unit. On the Range Rover L405 and Range Rover Sport L494 they're often replaced in pairs if one fails.
What are the signs of a failing parking brake actuator?
A failing electric parking brake actuator typically triggers a parking brake warning, a grinding or straining noise when applying or releasing, or the brake not holding. On the L405 and L494 a faulty actuator can leave the parking brake stuck on or off.
