What is the EGR Cooler Hose and what does it do?
The EGR Cooler Hose carries engine coolant to the EGR cooler on the 3.0L V6 diesel. There the recirculated exhaust gas is cooled before re-entering the intake, lowering combustion temperatures and reducing NOx emissions. It is part of the coolant plumbing serving the EGR cooler.
Which vehicles take this EGR cooler hose?
It fits the 3.0 V6 diesel in the Discovery 5 L462 (2017+), Range Rover L405 (2013-2022) and Range Rover Sport L494 (2014-2022). Only the 3.0 V6 diesel engine applies, including diesel hybrid variants from VIN FA000001.
Why do EGR cooler hoses fail on these engines?
EGR cooler hoses typically fail through heat-hardening, cracking or coolant leaks after prolonged exposure to engine heat. A leak usually shows as coolant loss or a low-coolant warning. On the 3.0 V6 diesel the EGR circuit runs hot, which ages the hose over time.
