Frequently asked questions

What does the LR070942 rear shock absorber do on the Evoque?
The LR070942 rear shock absorber damps the movement of the rear suspension on the Range Rover Evoque L538. It mounts between the rear axle and the body and controls how quickly the spring settles after a bump, keeping the tyre in contact with the road.
Which side of the vehicle does this fit?
This is the right-hand rear damper for the Range Rover Evoque L538. Handing is taken sitting in the driver's seat facing forwards, so on a right-hand-drive car it's the driver's side and on a left-hand-drive car it's the passenger side.
Do I need to replace both rear shock absorbers together?
Replacing rear shock absorbers in pairs is the usual approach. This is the right-hand unit only, so if the left-hand damper has the same mileage on it, fitting one new and one worn unit typically leaves the rear of the Evoque L538 damping unevenly side to side.
What are the signs a rear shock absorber has failed?
Oil weeping down the damper body is the clearest sign. Beyond that, a floating or bouncy rear end, knocking over bumps, and uneven rear tyre wear typically point to a worn rear damper on the Evoque L538. Failed dampers also lengthen braking distances.
