This stud locates and retains the exhaust manifold and turbocharger mounting joints, holding the clamping load through repeated heat cycling. It's used on the exhaust manifold and turbo joints of the 3.0 V6 diesel on Discovery 5, Range Rover L405 and Range Rover Sport L494.
Can these exhaust studs be reused?
Exhaust manifold and turbo studs work-harden and thin over their life, and the threads are often damaged during removal, so renewal is normal whenever the manifold or turbo is taken off. Where several studs in a joint are disturbed, replace them as a set.
