The LR158115LR services the drive pinion in the rear differential. The pinion takes torque from the propshaft flange into the crown wheel, and this kit lets you rebuild that pinion assembly instead of replacing the whole differential carrier. It's the Genuine Land Rover part.
What are the symptoms of a worn rear pinion?
Driveline whine that changes with road speed, excessive backlash felt as driveline shunt, and oil weeping from the pinion seal at the propshaft flange all point to worn pinion bearings or lost preload on the rear axle. Left alone, the wear spreads to the crown wheel.
Which vehicles does this rear pinion kit cover?

Is rebuilding the rear pinion a DIY job?
No. Rebuilding a rear pinion means re-setting pinion preload to the workshop manual specification, which needs a torque gauge and the correct crush spacer procedure. Get it wrong and the bearings fail quickly or the crown wheel mesh is destroyed. This is a specialist differential job.
