What is this front brake disc and what does it do?

This is a vented front brake disc for the 18-inch front brake package. It bolts to the front hub and provides the friction surface the caliper pads clamp against, turning the vehicle's momentum into heat. Cast cooling vanes pump air through the disc to resist fade under repeated heavy braking.

Which vehicles take this 18-inch front disc?

This front disc fits the Range Rover Sport L494 2014-2022 and Discovery 5 2017+ built with the Non-SVR 18-inch front brake package, from VIN JA000001 on the Sport. Confirm your front disc and caliper size before ordering, as these platforms also use 19 and 20-inch packages.

How many are needed and should the pads be changed too?

Two front discs are needed to renew the axle, and they should be replaced as a pair so braking stays balanced side to side. Fit a new set of front pads at the same time so the fresh friction material beds evenly to the new disc surface.
