Frequently asked questions

What does the LR181676 expansion tank do?
The LR181676 coolant expansion tank is the pressurised header and overflow reservoir for the engine cooling system on the Range Rover L405 (2013-2022) and Range Rover Sport L494 (2014-2022). It absorbs coolant volume as the engine heats, provides the fill point and level reference, and carries the pressure cap that sets system pressure.
Where is the expansion tank located?
The expansion tank sits in the engine bay as the high point of the cooling circuit on the Range Rover L405 and Sport L494, where air separates out of the coolant. It connects to the radiator and heater circuit and holds the coolant reserve. Aftermarket replacement for the original tank.
Why do these expansion tanks fail?
Coolant expansion tanks crack and split with age and heat cycling on the Range Rover L405 and Sport L494, often at the seams or the cap neck. Coolant loss, a low-level warning, or visible weeping around the tank are the usual signs it needs replacing.
