Frequently asked questions

What is the crankcase breather cover and what does it do?
It's the crankcase ventilation cover on the 2.0L AJ20P4 petrol engine. It seals the breather chamber and routes crankcase gases into the intake while draining separated oil back to the sump. Fitted to the Discovery Sport (2015+) and Range Rover Evoque L551 (2019+).
Where does the breather cover sit on the engine?
The breather cover sits on the sealed side of the crankcase ventilation path on the AJ20P4 2.0L petrol engine. Because it's on the sealed side, a cracked or warped cover lets unmetered air into the intake and upsets fuelling.
What are the signs the breather cover needs replacing?
A crankcase breather cover typically fails when the plastic distorts, cracks or its seal hardens, admitting unmetered air. That usually shows as rough idle, a lean fuelling fault code or a whistle from the breather area on the 2.0L petrol engine.
