De schijf wordt op de voorwielnaaf gemonteerd en draait mee met het wiel; de remklauw klemt de remblokken tegen de frictievlakken om de remkracht vooraan te genereren. Een geventileerd ontwerp heeft interne koelvinnen tussen de twee frictievlakken, die lucht door de schijf trekken om warmte af te voeren en fading van de remmen te weerstaan bij langdurig of zwaar remmen.
