What is the No.4 HT ignition lead?

This is the high-tension ignition lead carrying the coil's secondary output to the No.4 cylinder spark plug on the 2.0L 16-valve MPi T-Series four-cylinder petrol engine. Both ends carry insulating boots, one over the plug insulator and one over its HT terminal. Fitted to the Discovery 1.

Can I use this lead for a different cylinder?

No. Leads in a set are cut to individual lengths matched to each cylinder's routing, so this one is specific to No.4 and isn't interchangeable with the other leads. Fitting it elsewhere leaves it too long or too short to route cleanly.

What are the signs of a failing HT lead?

Insulation hardens and cracks with repeated heat cycling and conductor resistance rises with age. This typically shows up as a misfire under load, rough idle, or poor starting in damp weather, and a degraded lead can track to earth or a neighbouring lead.

Should I replace the whole set?

The full set is normally renewed together to keep secondary resistance consistent across the engine. Replacing one lead against three aged ones can leave an uneven spark, so many workshops fit a complete set.
