What is the NRC5593PY upper shock absorber bush set?
The NRC5593PY is a polyurethane bush for the upper damper mounting. It isolates the shock absorber from its top mount and controls the damper's location as the suspension articulates, replacing the standard rubber bush with a firmer, more wear-resistant material.
Where does the upper damper bush sit?
At the top mounting of the shock absorber, where the damper eye or pin passes through its bracket. It's the mounting you reach from above rather than at the axle, and it takes the damping load in both directions as the suspension moves.
How many bushes does each damper take?
Two per damper. They fit either side of the mounting so the damper is captured between them. A vehicle with four dampers therefore needs eight bushes to renew every upper mounting, so work out your total before ordering.
Why do upper damper bushes fail?
Standard rubber bushes typically perish and split with age and heat, letting the damper move in its mounting. The usual symptom is a knock over bumps or when the suspension unloads, often mistaken for a worn damper itself on the Defender and Range Rover Classic.
