What is this power steering pipe for?
This is the high-pressure feed pipe carrying fluid from the power steering pump outlet to the steering box on the Land Rover Defender. It is pre-formed to the factory routing and locates in the retaining clips that hold it clear of engine-bay components.
Why does this pipe commonly fail?
Because it sits on the pressure side of the circuit, the crimped end unions and flexible section carry full system pressure and are the usual origin of fluid loss and of heavy or intermittent assistance on the Defender. A leak typically drops the fluid level and admits air.
Which Defender does it fit?
It fits right-hand drive Land Rover Defender models with factory power steering, up to VIN JA918810. For Td5 vehicles the break point is VIN XA159807. Confirm your VIN against these breaks before ordering, and bleed the circuit after fitting.
