What is the RRC8681 bonding lead?
The RRC8681 is an earth bonding lead in the Land Rover Defender chassis wiring harness. It provides a low-resistance earth path between the body and the chassis, keeping electrical continuity for body circuits that return to earth through the chassis rails.
What happens if the bonding lead corrodes?
A corroded or fractured bonding lead raises earth resistance across the whole return path, which can cause dim lights, flickering or odd electrical faults on the Defender. Renewing the RRC8681 restores a clean earth between body and chassis and often clears intermittent gremlins.
Where is the bonding lead fitted on a Defender?
The bonding lead is part of the Defender chassis harness, strapping the body to the chassis to maintain the earth return. Because it lives in an exposed underbody area, it is prone to corrosion and is worth checking when chasing electrical faults.
