What does the STC3254 fuel shut-off solenoid do?
The STC3254 solenoid threads into the 300 Tdi rotary injection pump and controls the fuel passage to the high-pressure rotor. Switching the ignition on energises it and opens the passage; switching off closes it and stops the engine.
What are the signs the shut-off solenoid has failed?
A failed solenoid, corroded feed wire or poor earth typically shows as an engine that cranks normally but won't start, or one that won't shut down on the key. Check the feed wire and earth before condemning the solenoid.
Does the solenoid need a new seal when fitted?
Yes. The solenoid seals to the injection pump body with an O-ring, which should be renewed on refitting to prevent a fuel leak at the pump head.
Which vehicles does the STC3254 fit?
It fits the Land Rover Defender (1987-2006) and Discovery 1 (1989-1998) with the 2.5L 300 Tdi diesel engine. On the Discovery 1 it's specified up to VIN MA081992.
