What is this front axle case oil seal?
This front axle case oil seal is the output seal in the front differential housing. It seals the point where the drive output passes out of the diff, retaining axle oil and keeping road dirt and water away from the bearing and joint behind it.
What are the signs this oil seal has failed?
A hardened, split or weeping oil seal first shows as an oil film on the axle case and shaft, and in time as a falling differential oil level. Replacing the seal stops the leak and protects the bearing behind it.
How is this oil seal fitted?
This oil seal is a press fit in its housing. Clean the bore and the sealing land before fitting, then drive the new seal in square, taking care not to damage the lip or the spring behind it. Top up the diff oil afterwards.
