Frequently asked questions

What is the Shock Ball Joint Kit (TFSBJ) for?
The TFSBJ is a service kit for the spherical mounting joint at the end of a Terrafirma Competition or Mega Sport shock absorber. The ball joint lets the shock swivel as the axle articulates and is the main wear point at each end of the damper.
How many kits do I need per shock?
The TFSBJ renews the joint at one end of one shock, so two kits are needed to rebuild both ends of a single damper. For a pair of shocks on one axle you'd typically need four kits. No other shock components are included.
How do I know the ball joint needs replacing?
A worn shock ball joint develops play, which loads the damper body off-axis. That typically shows as a knock under load, the shaft seal starting to leak, and the mounting bolt fretting. Renewing the joint restores correct alignment rather than replacing the whole shock.
Which vehicles does this ball joint kit fit?
The TFSBJ fits Terrafirma Competition and Mega Sport shocks on the Land Rover Defender up to 2016 (including 110 and 2007-on Puma), Discovery 1 (1989-1998) and Range Rover Classic. Confirm your damper is a Terrafirma Competition or Mega Sport unit.
