What is the sump drain plug?

This is the sump drain plug for the engine oil pan, the sealed drain point of the engine lubrication system. It threads into the lowest point of the sump and is removed to drain the engine oil at service. This is a plain plug without a magnetic tip.

Does it come with a sealing washer?

This plug seals against a copper crush washer that deforms on tightening to give a leak-tight joint. The washer is a single-use item and should be renewed every time the plug is disturbed. The companion sealing washer is UAM2857L, ordered separately.

My sump plug is weeping, do I need a new plug?

A weeping sump plug is most often the washer rather than the plug itself, so renew the crush washer first. A plug with a damaged sealing face or stretched thread should be replaced rather than over-tightened, since over-tightening risks stripping the sump thread.
