Frequently asked questions

What is the UKC7012L valve stem seal used for?
The UKC7012L is the inlet valve stem seal for the Range Rover Classic (1970-1994) V8 petrol engine. It fits over the inlet valve stem in the cylinder head and stops oil being drawn down the valve guide into the combustion chamber.
How many UKC7012L seals are needed for a V8 engine?
The Rover V8 has eight inlet valves, so a full set of inlet stem seals needs eight of these. Many people replace inlet and exhaust seals together while the heads are off, so check both when ordering.
What are the symptoms of a failed valve stem seal?
Failed inlet valve stem seals typically cause blue smoke on start-up or after idling, plus higher oil consumption. Hardened or perished seals let oil past the valve guide, so replacing them restores oil control at the valve.
