Frequently asked questions

What does the front crankshaft oil seal do?
The front crankshaft oil seal runs on the crankshaft nose at the timing cover, retaining engine oil and keeping contaminants out at the front of the Jaguar 3.0L SC V6 and 5.0L V8 petrol engine. This is a Corteco seal.
Should the front crank seal be replaced when disturbed?
Yes, replace the front crankshaft oil seal any time the timing cover or crankshaft pulley is removed. It's a single-use seal, and refitting an old one usually causes an oil leak at the front of the engine. Fit a new seal as standard during front cover work.
What are the signs the front crank seal is leaking?
A failing front crankshaft oil seal typically shows as engine oil weeping from the timing cover area, oil on the lower drive belt, or drips at the front of the engine. Catching it early avoids belt contamination. Fits Jaguar XK, F-TYPE, XF, XJ, XE and F-PACE.
