Frequently asked questions

What is the outer differential oil seal for?
The outer differential oil seal keeps transmission fluid inside the AWF21 6-speed automatic transaxle's differential section on the Freelander 2 and Range Rover Evoque L538. It seals around the output where the driveshaft exits, stopping fluid leaks at the axle joint. It's an external transmission component.
Should this differential oil seal be replaced or reused?
Replace this differential oil seal whenever it's removed. Oil seals typically distort once disturbed and won't seal reliably a second time, so fitting a new Corteco seal is standard during any driveshaft or differential service on the Freelander 2 and Evoque L538 AWF21 transmission.
What are the signs this differential seal is leaking?
A leaking outer differential seal usually shows as transmission fluid weeping or dripping at the driveshaft joint on the Freelander 2 or Evoque L538. Left unchecked it can drop the AWF21 transmission's fluid level and risk overheating. A new seal restores the fluid seal at the axle output.
