What does this drive belt do?
This is the supercharger drive belt for the Jaguar 4.0L supercharged V8. It transmits crankshaft rotation to the supercharger drive pulley, running over an idler pulley that sets belt wrap and tension. Belt condition acts directly on boost delivery.
Is this the same as the accessory belt?
No. This is a dedicated drive to the supercharger, separate from the accessory belt that turns the alternator, water pump and power steering pump. So a fault here affects boost rather than the ancillaries.
What are the signs the belt needs replacing?
A glazed, cracked or slipping belt shows as reduced power under load, belt squeal and lost boost pressure. Inspect the idler pulley bearing for roughness whenever the belt is renewed, as a seizing idler is a common cause of premature wear.
Which Jaguars does it fit?
