What is the 46mm core plug used for?
The 46mm core plug is a cup-type plug that seals the rear of the camshaft bore in the V8 petrol cylinder block. It closes the machined opening at the back of the camshaft tunnel once the camshaft is fitted.
Which engines does this core plug fit?
This core plug fits Rover V8 petrol engines only, roughly 3.5L to 4.6L, across the Defender, Discovery 1 and 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38. It isn't used on diesel engines.
How is the core plug fitted?
The 46mm core plug is driven into the bore and sealed on assembly, typically with a sealant. Access is needed to the rear of the camshaft tunnel, so it's usually fitted during engine or camshaft work.
