Frequently asked questions

What does the DA4742 top shock absorber mount do?
The DA4742 secures the upper end of the shock absorber to the body mounting turret on the Discovery 2. It locates the damper's top mounting and isolates suspension movement from the body through its bonded rubber bush. This is the offside (right-hand) mount.
Do I need one or two DA4742 mounts?
The DA4742 covers the offside (right-hand) top mount only. If the bush is perished on one side it's usually worn on the other too, so many people replace the nearside mount at the same time to keep the Discovery 2 suspension balanced.
Why does the Discovery 2 top shock mount fail?
Top shock mounts like the DA4742 typically fail when the bonded rubber bush perishes or separates with age and load. Symptoms include a knock or clonk from the top of the suspension over bumps, and vague handling. A collapsed mount lets the damper move in its turret.
