What does the FTC4108 detent spring plug do?
The FTC4108 is the detent spring plug for the R380 5-speed manual gearbox. It threads into the gear selector housing and closes off the detent bore, retaining the detent spring and ball that press on the selector shaft. That detent action holds each gear and helps stop the box jumping out of gear.
Which models use this detent plug?
The detent plug is used on the R380 gearbox in the Defender (up to 2006), Discovery 1, Discovery 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38. It sits in the selector housing, part of the gearchange mechanism rather than the main gear cluster.
What are the signs the detent needs attention?
