What is the FTC5143 rear differential?
The FTC5143 is a complete rear differential assembly with 24-spline halfshaft side gears and a three-bolt pinion drive flange, supplied as an exchange unit. It bolts into the rear axle casing and splits drive from the propshaft between the two halfshafts, letting them turn at different speeds through a corner.
How do I know if I need the 24-spline differential rather than another spline count?
Count the splines on your existing halfshaft, or check whether your differential uses a three-bolt pinion flange, both signs of the 24-spline type covered by the FTC5143. Ordering the wrong spline count means the halfshafts won't engage the side gears.
How do I confirm the FTC5143 fits my Discovery?
This fits Discovery 1 from VIN MA081992 onward and Discovery 2, both with the 24-spline, three-bolt flange rear differential. Check your chassis number and halfshaft spline count before ordering, since earlier Discovery 1 axles used a different configuration.
