What does the rear top shock absorber mount bracket (LRD218N/S) do?
The rear top shock absorber mount bracket provides the upper fixing point that secures the top of the rear damper to the body. It transfers damping loads into the vehicle structure and locates the shock absorber against the chassis. This is the left-hand (nearside) bracket for the Land Rover Discovery 2.
Is this bracket left or right specific?
This is the left-hand (nearside) rear top bracket, part LRD218N/S. The right-hand side uses its own bracket, so order a pair if both sides are affected. On the Discovery 2 these brackets sit at the top of each rear shock absorber mounting.
Why do these mounting brackets need replacing?
Rear shock absorber mount brackets typically fail through corrosion or cracking, common on older Discovery 2 vehicles exposed to road salt. A rusted or split bracket can let the top of the damper move or detach, causing knocking from the nearside rear. It's usually replaced rather than repaired.
