Frequently asked questions

What does the knock sensor (NSC100650G) do on the Rover V8 EFi engine?
The knock sensor detects the vibration signature of engine detonation and reports it to the ECM under Bosch engine management. The ECM responds by retarding ignition timing to protect the engine from knock damage.
How many knock sensors does the Rover V8 EFi engine require?
Two sensors are fitted, one on each bank of the V8 cylinder block. Both must be working for the ECM to protect the full engine against detonation.
What are the symptoms of a failed knock sensor on a Discovery 2 or P38?
A faulty sensor typically sets a knock sensor fault code and puts the ECM into a permanently retarded ignition map, causing a noticeable reduction in power output and increased fuel consumption.
Which vehicles use NSC100650G?
It fits the Land Rover Discovery 2 (1998-2004, V8 EFi petrol) and the Range Rover P38 (1994-2001, 4.0L and 4.6L V8 EFi petrol, including LC variants) up to VIN XA410482. Diesel variants do not use this sensor.
