What is the TFWA850 wide angle rear propshaft for?
The TFWA850 is a wide angle rear propshaft that transmits drive from the transfer box rear output flange to the rear axle differential input flange. Its 32 degree wide angle yoke and universal joints allow considerably more articulation than a standard shaft, suiting long-travel suspension.
Why fit a wide angle propshaft?
A wide angle propshaft suits long-travel suspension because a standard yoke can bind at full axle droop, straining the joints and in severe cases locking or tearing the shaft. The 32 degree geometry accommodates the articulation typical of setups running around 11in travel shocks, and it's built around 20% stronger than a standard propshaft.
Does the TFWA850 need any other parts to fit?
Yes. Fitting the TFWA850 requires the STC4858 differential input flange. It also uses a RILSAN coated 100mm spline slip coupling with a double seal and greasable metal-shield universal joints. Confirm you have or order the STC4858 flange before fitting.
Will a wide angle propshaft cure driveline vibration from a lift?
No. A wide angle propshaft isn't a remedy for driveline vibration caused by raised suspension. That vibration comes from the shaft's angle relative to its end flanges, which a wide angle shaft doesn't alter. A double cardan propshaft is the component intended to address it.
Which vehicles does the TFWA850 fit?
The TFWA850 fits the Discovery 1 (1989-1998) with 200/300Tdi engines and the Discovery 2 (1998-2004) with V8 or Td5 engines, as the rear wide angle propshaft. Confirm your model and that you're running long-travel suspension that needs the wide angle geometry.
