What is this O-ring used for?
This O-ring seals the variable valve timing (VVT) solenoid cover in the engine timing gear, preventing oil leaking at the cover joint. It's an Elring OEM seal for AJ20P petrol and AJ20D diesel Ingenium engines, used on the Discovery 5, Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.
Where does this VVT cover O-ring sit?
This O-ring sits at the VVT solenoid cover within the timing gear at the front of the Ingenium engine. It seals the cover against oil escaping where the variable valve timing components are housed.
Should this O-ring be replaced once removed?
This O-ring is typically replaced whenever the VVT solenoid cover is disturbed, as the rubber takes a set and can leak if refitted. Fitting a new seal keeps the timing cover joint oil-tight on these AJ20 Ingenium engines.
