De poelie drijft de accessoire (hulp) riem aan die de dynamo, waterpomp en andere riemaangedreven hulpapparatuur aandrijft. Het verbonden demperelement absorbeert krukas-torsietrillingen om de voorkant van de motor te beschermen en de riemaandrijving over het gehele werkbereik soepel te maken.
