What does the degas hose do?
The degas hose carries coolant and trapped air from the engine and radiator to the degas (expansion) tank, letting air and vapour separate out of the coolant. Keeping the coolant path sealed and air-free helps prevent hot spots and airlocks in the cooling system.
Which engines use this degas hose?
This degas hose fits the 3.0L supercharged V6 and 5.0L V8 petrol engines in the Discovery 5, New Defender L663, Range Rover L405 and Range Rover Sport L494. Confirm your engine is one of these petrol units before ordering.
Why do degas hoses fail?
Degas hoses typically fail from age-hardening, cracking or splitting at the connections, letting coolant weep or air enter the system. On these V6 and V8 petrol engines a leaking degas hose can cause coolant loss and overheating, so it's usually renewed once it perishes.
