What does the throttle body and motor do?
The throttle body controls the engine's air intake. This assembly includes the electronically actuated throttle valve and its drive motor, which opens and closes the valve on command from the engine management to meter airflow into the inlet manifold.
Where is the throttle body fitted?
The throttle body mounts in the intake tract between the charge air cooler outlet duct and the inlet manifold. Its integral electric actuator and position sensor let the engine management set and monitor the valve angle, so no throttle cable is used.
What are the symptoms of a failing throttle body?
A failing throttle body typically shows as erratic idle, hesitation, limp-home mode, or a stored throttle or airflow fault. Because the actuator and position sensor are built in, an internal fault usually means replacing the complete unit rather than a single sensor.
