Frequently asked questions

What is the 7840 Winch Plate used for?

This is the structural mounting plate that secures a recovery winch to the vehicle. It provides the bolting platform for the winch and carries its weight and the line-pull loads generated during a recovery, transferring those forces into the chassis mounting points.

What tools are needed to fit this winch plate?

Fitting typically means bolting the plate to the chassis mounting points and then bolting the winch to the plate, so a socket set and torque wrench are usually enough. Always torque the mounting bolts to the workshop manual specification given the loads involved.

Why does the mounting hardware matter on a winch plate like this?

Because a winch plate carries the full line-pull load during a recovery, using the correct grade of mounting bolts and torquing them correctly is safety-critical. A loose or under-specified bolt can let the plate shift or fail under load.

Can this winch plate be reused if I remove my winch?

The plate itself is typically reusable structural hardware, but always inspect it for cracks, corrosion or bolt-hole elongation before refitting, and replace the mounting bolts as standard if they show thread damage.
