What is the GA3311 brake pad used for?
The GA3311 is a front brake pad set for the disc brake caliper. Friction material bonded to a steel backing plate clamps against the front brake disc when the caliper piston is applied, slowing the front axle. It's supplied as a set for one axle and fits the front caliper on early Defender and Discovery 1 applications.
Why do front brake pads wear out on a Defender or Discovery 1?
Front brake pads wear because the friction material grinds away every time the caliper clamps the disc, and the front axle carries most of the braking load under deceleration. Watch for a squeal from the wear indicator, reduced pedal feel, or pad thickness below 3mm. Replace pads across the axle as a set to keep braking balanced.
Does the GA3311 fit all Defender and Discovery 1 model years?
GA3311 fits Defender front brakes from 1986 to 1991 and Discovery 1 front brakes from 1994 to 1998, per SAP fitment data. Outside those ranges the front caliper and disc pair changed, so confirm your build year or VIN before ordering.
