What is this rear brake pad kit?

This is a Genuine rear brake pad kit, supplied as a complete axle set for both rear wheels. The pads sit in the rear caliper carriers and are pressed against the rear discs by the caliper pistons to slow the vehicle and to provide the electric park brake clamp.

Is one kit enough for the rear axle?

One kit covers the complete rear axle, both sides. Brake pads must be renewed as an axle set so braking stays balanced left to right. Fit new rear pads to fresh or serviceable discs only, and bed them in gently over the first drives.

What preparation does the electric park brake need?

On these models the rear calipers carry an integrated electric park brake, so put them into service mode with a diagnostic tool before retracting the pistons. Forcing the pistons back without service mode can damage the actuator motor.

Why replace rear brake pads?

Rear brake pads are replaced once the friction lining wears down, shown by reduced braking, squeal, or a dashboard wear warning. Because the rear pads on these models also handle park-brake duty, worn pads can affect both normal stopping and parking-brake hold.
