Frequently asked questions

What is the MJD7864 brake pad spring?
The MJD7864 is a brake pad spring for the disc brake caliper, located in the caliper housing above the friction pads. It bears on the pad backing plates to hold them against the abutments, stopping rattle and pad movement. It fits several Jaguar models including the XJ (X300/X308) and XK8 (X100).
How many pad springs are needed and when should they be fitted?
There's typically one pad spring per caliper, so quantity follows the number of calipers you're servicing. It's best fitted with new brake pads, since a tired spring can't hold fresh pads firmly and lets them rattle in the Jaguar caliper.
Why replace the brake pad spring?
A brake pad spring loses tension over time through heat cycling and corrosion, letting the pads rattle or shift under braking. Renewing it during a pad change keeps the pads seated correctly against the caliper abutments on the Jaguar XJ, XJS or XK8.
