De schakelaar detecteert hydraulische druk in de remleiding. Wanneer het rempedaal wordt ingedrukt en de lijndruk stijgt, sluit de schakelaar het elektrische circuit om de remlichten te laten branden; wanneer het pedaal wordt losgelaten en de druk daalt, opent de schakelaar en gaan de lichten uit.

What does the STC1689A brake light switch do?
The STC1689A brake light switch is a hydraulic, pressure-operated switch fitted in the brake line of the Land Rover Series 2 and 3. When the pedal is pressed and line pressure rises, it closes the circuit to light the brake lights; when pressure drops, the lights go out.
Where does the hydraulic brake light switch fit?
The hydraulic brake light switch threads directly into the brake hydraulic system on the Land Rover Series 2 and 3, sensing line pressure rather than pedal movement. It uses a metric thread, so it has to match the port it screws into.
Why does the brake light switch fail?
Brake light switches typically fail when the internal contacts wear or corrode, or the diaphragm leaks, leaving the brake lights permanently on, off, or working intermittently. On the Series 2 and 3 this is a common cause of a brake-light fault at MOT time.
What's the difference between the metric and imperial brake light switch?
This is the metric-thread version. Land Rover Series brake systems used both metric and imperial thread switches, and the two don't interchange. Check the thread on your old switch or the union it screws into before ordering to avoid a mismatch.
