Frequently asked questions

What is this lithium-ion battery for?
This lithium-ion battery is the backup battery for the Telematics Control Unit (TCU). It supplies backup power so the TCU keeps operating and transmitting, for example emergency call functions, if the main vehicle supply is interrupted.
Where does the TCU backup battery sit?
The battery backs up the Telematics Control Unit, part of the vehicle's electrical and telematics system. It corresponds to JLR section 19K210 and is fitted across several Land Rover and Range Rover models from 2012 onward.
Which models use this TCU backup battery?
It fits the Discovery 5 (2017 on), Discovery Sport (2015 on), Range Rover L405 (2013-2022), Range Rover Sport L494 (2014-2022), Range Rover Evoque L538 (2012-2018) and L551 (2019 on), and Range Rover Velar (2017 on) with a Telematics Control Unit.
How do I know if the TCU backup battery needs replacing?
A depleted TCU backup battery typically triggers telematics or emergency-call warning messages, since the unit can't hold backup power. Fitting this Genuine Land Rover battery restores backup operation to the telematics control unit.
