The DA5558 is a clutch kit for the 2.2-litre TD4 diesel driveline in the Freelander 2 (2006-2014). It comprises the driven plate, the pressure cover and the concentric slave cylinder (CSC), the parts needed for a complete clutch replacement.
What is the concentric slave cylinder and why is it included?
The concentric slave cylinder (CSC) is the hydraulic release mechanism that sits around the gearbox input shaft and acts directly on the clutch cover diaphragm spring. It is included because it is buried inside the bellhousing, so it is renewed with the clutch to avoid a second gearbox-out job.
Should the slave cylinder be replaced with the clutch?
Replacing the concentric slave cylinder with the clutch is strongly advised on the TD4, because a later CSC failure means splitting the gearbox from the engine again to reach it. Fitting the new plate, cover and CSC together renews the whole release system in one job.
