Frequently asked questions

What does the LR002609 track rod end do?
The LR002609 track rod end is the outer steering ball joint that transmits input from the rack to the steering knuckle on the right-hand (off-side) of the Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006-2014). Its threaded shank also sets the front toe when the wheel alignment is reset.
What are the signs a track rod end needs replacing?
A track rod end typically needs replacing when the ball joint develops play, the rubber boot splits, or the steering feels loose and knocks over bumps. On the Freelander 2 a worn track rod end can also cause uneven front tyre wear.
Do I need a wheel alignment after fitting this?
Yes, a wheel alignment is needed after fitting the track rod end. The threaded shank sets the front toe, so the alignment changes when the joint is replaced. Have the front toe checked and reset on the Freelander 2 once the new end is fitted.
